Over the past few weeks, BNS has been exploding in popularity, with nearly 150,000 BNS names registered in total, and around 300,000 STX volume on the secondary marketplace. We moved quickly to ship a BNS marketplace, and as such, we chose a very simplistic design for the BNS NFT image. We only ever intended this to be a temporary solution, so we’ve worked with Cexaline and the BNS Trading/DAO Discord Server to create a vote to produce a custom image for the BNS card design.

We want to make sure the image design is thoughtful, easy to recreate across thousands of apps and wallets, and free for anyone to use and remix. This is why the winning design will be minted as an NFT, associated with one of a16z’s Can’t Be Evil Licenses or the CC0 license, and then burned, creating a public blockchain record of the design and its permissive license.

How to vote

We’ve created a BlockSurvey to host the vote, which is a decentralized survey tool built on Stacks. With BlockSurvey, you can log in with your Hiro wallet to verify your address and to prevent spam. So here’s how it works:

  1. Visit the survey and begin your vote (takes 2-3 minutes total)
  2. On the first question, you’ll be asked to sign in with Hiro wallet, click to sign in
  3. When you reach the sign in page, you do not need to use a seed phrase to log in — you just need to click Sign in with Hiro below the box
  4. You’ll then be asked to vote on three separate designs; you can vote for or against any or all designs
  5. You’ll then be asked to rank designs against one another; you may place “Some other design” first if you don’t favor any of the designs
  6. Hit submit, and you’re finished!

Cast your vote

Visit this page from a browser that supports Hiro or Xverse wallet.
Be sure to read all instructions to ensure your vote is valid.

What’s next?

The vote will continue through October 26th at 11:59pm ET/NY. After the vote closes, we’ll share all responses publicly and determine next steps. If we need to make small tweaks to the design to account for handling BNS names of varying lengths, we’ll be sure it closely matches the design selected by the public. If “Some other design” is selected as the most favored design, we’ll open up for community submissions and host a re-vote if necessary. Good luck!
